What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device. They help the site work and can tell the owner how the site is being used. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, work in the same way, so this policy covers them too.
How we use cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. There are two types on this site:
- Essential: needed to remember your cookie choice. These are always on.
- Analytics: Google Analytics, which tells us how many people visit and which pages are popular. These are only set if you click "Accept all", or turn analytics on in your settings.
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't use Google Analytics to advertise to you.
The cookies we use
| Name | Type | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
canary-consent | Essential (local storage) | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't ask on every page | Until you clear your browser data or change your choice |
_ga | Analytics (Google) | Tells visits apart, so Google Analytics can count unique visitors | 2 years |
_ga_KYEZYC2GCZ | Analytics (Google) | Keeps track of your current visit (session) for Google Analytics | 2 years |
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand how people use our website. For example, which pages are visited most, how long people stay and what kind of device they use. This helps us make the site better.
Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, the website you came from, your browser and device type, and your approximate location (worked out from your IP address). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses, and the reports we see don't identify individual visitors.
Google may process this information on servers outside the UK, including in the United States. You can read more inGoogle's privacy policy and inhow Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Google Analytics only runs if you agree. Until you click "Accept all" (or turn analytics on in your settings), the Google Analytics code isn't loaded and no analytics cookies are set. If you change your mind later, we stop Analytics and remove its cookies.
You can also stop Google Analytics on every website by installing theGoogle Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Other services on our site
- Google Fonts: the fonts on this site are loaded from Google's servers. This doesn't set cookies, but your browser does share your IP address with Google so it can send the fonts.
- WhatsApp, Facebook and phone links: these only open the app or website when you click them. Once you're there, that service's own cookie and privacy policies apply.
Changing your settings
You can change your choice at any time using thebutton, which is also in the footer of every page.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings:
Blocking essential cookies may mean we ask for your cookie choice on every visit.
